We should note that the visual perception of oneself (e.g. in a mirror) is derived from the gradual unification of visual capacities. The recognition of its specular image as in image of itself is the most significant contribution to the acquisition of the corporeal schema. The specular image, while extroceptively perceived, is also still introspectively internalized as a kind of double of itself.
